Project 3 is a design thinking project, and here is how I plan to do it. First, I have to empathize with the group of people that I plan to make an emoji for. The group that I plan to design an emoji for is the Autistic community. For me, this was an easy choice because I was very involved in the special needs program at my high school as a mentor. The first step that I need to do to be able to design an emoji is to empathize with the community. I have already done this and have a fairly good idea about what I want to design. For Autistic people it can be very difficult to be heard and make connections. I first wanted to define what I wanted to get out of this emoji, the message that I wanted to say. The word that kept popping up in my head that I thought would be perfect is connection. Autistic people often feel disconnected and left out and I thought that two hands shaking with the puzzle pieces connecting in the hands would be the perfect way to show being connected and aware. This is a fairly rough of idea of what I would like so I am definitely going to have to ideate or give the head of the program a call. I am sure she would have great insight or maybe even have some of the kids draw up some designs that they like I can incorporate those into the final design. I am going to email the teach tonight 3/31 to set up a time talk some time later this week but hopefully sometime on Monday April 1st. For the prototype step I will make my own prototype and send it to her and have the students make changes and personalize it how they like it. Then, I will take all the best parts from all the designs and incorporate them into one final piece. I would like to get all the prototyping done by Wednesday or Thursday this week so I have plenty of time to test the design. To test the design I want to come to 2 final designs and then make a survey and have the people in my Fraternity take it, they would vote on the designs and then give one thing that they liked about each design and one thing that they didn’t like about each design and use that data to make the final design perfect.
This video is about a challenge that a guy that has Autism created. In the challenge you make a poster about your self that is only visual and I thought that it was a really cool idea. I got the video from YouTube.
